Ruas do Bem

What is Ruas do Bem?

Ruas do Bem, literally translating, means Streets of Good. This project was about writing inspirational phrases on the streets of São Paulo to help Brazilians to cope with the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, talking about the importance of social distance at the time.

Why did we do the project?

At the beginning of the COVID pandemic, Brazil's president at the time, a negationist, minimized the danger, encouraged people to continue living their everyday lives, and even declared that it was "just a little cold." The project happened on the streets of São Paulo, the biggest city in the country, where we wrote phrases on the asphalt to motivate the use of masks and staying home. Approximately 20 people composed the @ruasdobem group, with me being the youngest participant. The project was very successful, and it got even TV coverage. In total, we wrote on more than one hundred streets, phrases with almost 65ft each, so they could be seen from people's apartments and inspire them to stay strong, knowing that they were not alone.
